History of Blade Cutters Landscaping
Blade Cutters Landscaping started as a Sole Proprietor in 1999 by Kevin Van Sessen.
I, Kevin Van Sessen, was enrolled at Purdue Calumet for a Bachelors degree in History when I realized that I was burdened by my employer and the conflict of time management between my current status at school and the Maintenance department at Indian Recycling Services in Griffith.
I had been self employed in the past with concessions and working events and fairs. I then realized at the age of 22 that I enjoyed the control of my own destiny. I continued to work during the summer and pick up new accounts, and buy the end of the summer I was cutting 16 lawn customers primarily in the Lakes of the Four Seasons subdivision in Winfield.
Within two years I realized that I was going to keep growing and a long childhood friend Charles Snyder approached me with an employment opportunity. We began to work together and slowly obtained more lawn customers. By this time we were beginning to do small landscape jobs in the area, re-building flower beds, small retaining walls, etc. The following year, in 2001, we had the opportunity to purchase a company called Crown Point Landscaping from a friend . We purchased the company, and at this time I decided to ask Chuck if he wanted to become partners in this company. I knew that to keep our current clients and the new 70 lawn customers that we obtained I would need help. Chuck thought this was a good idea and could see himself working in this atmosphere.
Four years pasted of developing an élite landscaping atmosphere, and then another opportunity came ahead. Tidy Lawn Care Company in Crown Point was closing its doors. We spoke with its owner and purchased his company as well. Since then we have brought in some excellent team members to push this company to the next level. Dennis Walley became our Chief Operation Officer. Dennis has his masters degree from Northern Illinois University. He has brought a whole new professional atmosphere to the table.
Now we have two Landscaping Crews developing and installing new landscaping projects for Residential and Commercial Property. One Maintenance crew to perform all small tasks that come our way. Two strong Lawn Crews that manage over 240 lawns. A Fertilization Crew that is fully educated and trained to spray and apply chemicals to over 150 customers.
In a nut shell, here is the history of Blade Cutters. Other important facts have taken place in the past 10 years to help us become one of the top Landscaping Company in the Northwest Indiana. We not only pride ourselves on revenue, but we also feel that a family-like atmosphere for the employees is crucial to success. To become an élite company, you have to have all of the factors in play. “Biggest is not always the best.” Ted Turner
